The 5th Creative Design Competition for Copper Pipes and the 1st Creative Design Competition for Water Pipes and Electrical Wire Applications took place today at Far East University of Science and Technology. Teams of students from vocational high schools across Taiwan in related fields competed, and the results were announced in the afternoon: The top three in the Water Pipe category were Tzu-Yu Industrial and Commercial High School, Da-Rong High School, and Xinying Vocational High School. In the Copper Pipe category, the top three were Da-An Vocational High School, Miaoli Agricultural and Industrial Vocational High School, and Chiayi Vocational High School. The organizing committee invited experts from academia, government, and industry, including Yankee Engineering, Tainan Vocational Training Center, and Shu-Te University's Product Design Department, to judge the competition.
Shen Ming-chiu, the department head, mentioned that the competition was assisted by the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Deep Cultivation Program and received financial support from Yankee Engineering. The first-place winner in the Copper Pipe category received a prize of NT$16,000, while the Water Pipe category first-place winner received NT$12,000, providing benefits for future school applications or job resumes. The competition emphasized the use of recycled and environmentally friendly materials for copper pipe welding and water pipe and electrical wire applications, allowing students to showcase their creativity.
Shen Ming-chiu pointed out that copper pipe welding is an essential practical skill for the Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Energy Department. Water pipes and electrical wires are also common materials used in daily work. The creative competition encourages high school students to apply what they have learned and present their work with environmental recycling concepts, combining innovation, creative aesthetics, and styling to showcase the unique characteristics of their creations. Participants used discarded copper pipes and wires to creatively process and weld them together. In the water pipe and electrical wire competition, students were encouraged to integrate practical plumbing and electrical skills with aesthetic awareness, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities, allowing their water pipe or electrical wire works to have different applications or innovative ideas.
